Disturbing dash cam video of a group of four carjackers has been released by police as they attempt to track down the group that failed to steal the luxury car because they did not know how to operate a manual transmission.
The incident was reported shortly before midnight on Sunday, Nov. 26 in the 7300 block of Wisconsin Avenue in Bethesda when a man parked his Porsche on the side of the road.
According to police, once the man got out of his car, he was blocked in by a group driving a maroon Nissan Rogue, at which point three suspects got out while the getaway driver laid in wait.
One of the suspects pointed a gun at the Porsche driver while demanding his car keys and pistol whipping him with the handgun, to which the man complied; however, there was a wrench in their plan they couldn't see coming.
They then got in and attempted to drive away in the Porsche, but it had a manual transmission and he was unable to drive it. The suspects then retreated back to the Nissan and left the area.
The suspects were described by investigators as:
A Black Hispanic man, with a thin build, between 16 and 20 years old, armed with a handgun, wearing a surgical mask, a black coat and a gray hooded sweatshirt;
- A Black man, with a thin build, between 16 and 20 years old, wearing a black coat, black jeans and light blue sneakers;
- A Black man, with a thin build, unknown age, wearing a black ski mask, gloves, a black coat and a gray hooded sweatshirt;
- A Black man whose age and clothing were unknown.
Anyone with information regarding the attempted armed carjacking or any of the suspects has been asked to contact Crime Solvers of Montgomery County by calling 1-866-411-8477.
